When he entered back into the house, he came to the realization that the sound of the chanting and drums was emanating from the living room. The couple, unnerved by this strangely eery experience, decided they were not going to sleep there that night, and promptly left. Upon returning the following morning, they walked to the center of the living room, where the wife noticed a single pristine feather laying on the floor. The couple checked all the windows in the house, but they were all locked shut. Marie lived in an old adobe cottage at 152 Rue St. Ann (the location is marked today as 1020 St. Ann Street).

Through interaction with her black clients who were house servants, she was exposed to personal information about her wealthy white clients, who often sought her counsel. Laveau used this information to give informed counsel to the people who sought advice from her concerning their personal affairs.
